A New Semester for Me

Though as much as I have enjoyed throughout my birthday week with all the celebrations and surprises, I am stressed with work.

I should not be complaining actually because I accepted this part time job offer willingly. Or more precisely, I myself went to apply for the job lol.

Not a tough one actually, writing script only ma. Some more it's for teaching primary school kids.

LOL that was my 1st thought. I really thought it should not be a problem because English is not a problem for me.

Mana tau... cracking my brains for the right words to use so that the kids will understand is actually a tough task for me T________T

My motivation to keep going is to polish my writing skills and grammar knowledge. And most importantly is the pay. Not high but at least got side income.

Will be taking a subject in this short semester for 7 weeks. This will be my 1st and last time taking short semester in my degree course.

But I still plan to work part time, wanna earn a lot a lot a lot of money. Plus I still need to continue my damn FYP.

Gonna be a busy semester for me, and a contented one as well XD

Soba Yoshi Japanese Restaurant, Krystal Point

For today's dinner, my dad brought us to Soba Yoshi Japanese Restaurant at Krystal Point, Penang.

This was my 1st visit to this Japanese restaurant. Well, my dad's treating us dinner for my birthday so I thought of dining Japanese food as I love Jap food a lot =) So my dad recommended this restaurant. Guess he brought his clients there before and thought the food was not bad.

Like those reviewes I found online after dining, this restaurant indeed has the traditional Japanese atmosphere. Plus, there are magazines and books in Japanese language.

According to my dad, normally businessmen will bring clients to this restaurant to dine. Maybe because now it is still the "Nine Emperor Gods Festival", there were not many customers when we arrived. Hence, our food was served quite fast =)

As we always make it a habit not to overeat especially dinner, we shared 2 rice sets among us. Mum and I ordered a set of unagi rice with mushroom...

that comes with a bowl of noodles, miso soup and a plate of fruits.

This rice set was not bad. We loved it.

As for my dad, he ordered a fish rice set. I am not sure what is the name of the fist, but it is his favourite.

And we ordered a side order - bitter gourd.

I was very very in love with this dish. Simply delicious! Those who like bitter gourd which is not too bitter, this is the one. Tasted nice with the eggs =)

I wonder if next year I will still get to have birthday dinner with them?

Overall, I quite like this restaurant. At least, it is a change for me as I normally dine in Japanese restaurants that have conveyor belts like Sushi Zanmai.

Food: Not bad
Price: Quite reasonable
Ambience: Nice

Sherril's Project 365: #40 & #41

Sherril's Project 365: #40

03.04.2010

Ok, so eventually it was proven that my Project 365 did not go as I wanted, which was supposed to be updated everyday with everyday's shot. So I shall change it to my way to suit me better, as in I shall update this project if I have any shot to be uploaded =)

Anyway back to this photo. What do you think of it?

Well it may just be an ordinary beach photo but it is actually the Black Sand Beach in Langkawi. It was taken when I went Langkawi with my TOU gang. This is the 1st photo I tried editing with PhotoScape which I tried using few days ago.

Well not much to be said, but it contains memories and conversations we had on that beach.

You know, one of my bestie shouted from above when I was on the beach:

"Sherril, 我看不到你了啦!因为你跟黑沙滩一样黑!"
Translation: "Sherril, I cannot see you because you are as black as the black sand beach!"

Great.

At least I was not darker than the sand! (secret joke shared among TOU)

Penang lang

Main purpose of this hang out was supposed to be choosing Indian costume for Wan Chin for some event. But in the end, we just walked around the mall, watched 2 fashion shows and sat down chatting in Starbucks.

At first, there were only 4 of us.

The 3 girls who happened to be housemates and

this funny guy.

Me, Shyuan, Chew Xing and Wan Chin

Then, the 5th person turned up. We are all Engineering students but in different fields.

Because we realized we could not find what we wanted, we watched fashion shows. LOL.

To the girls, what is your colour for your dream wedding dress?

Yellow?

Black?

Purple?

Red?

Blue?

White?

Or any of these?

I prefer the doll miniatures. Haha.

The meet up was ended with chit chats in Starbucks. Argh.... I love frappucino!!

Lesson learnt today: Any subject can be fun to learn if we change the way we study now.

Sherril's Project 365: #39

Today is 10.10.10.

Spent my entire afternoon in Queensbay Mall with my favourite lecturer and friends. These are a few shots taken while watching wedding fashion show.

Mr. Ong, it is time for us to invest in bigass camera. I remember what you said - "I will bring along my DSLR when attending your wedding in the future." Haha... but I think I would like to attend yours before mine =)

1st Cupcake Baking Experience

So, 26th Sept was Kuak's birthday and I decided to do something special. Though I have a gift in mind that I wanted to give, but I am superstitious and decided not to give. Yeah call me superstitious I do not mind, it is better to prevent =)

I seriously suck when it comes to cooking and baking stuffs. But because it was his big day, I decided to bake cupcakes for him, which I have no experience in at all. Whatever haha. So planned everything with baby ong because she has oven and she also baked cupcakes for her bf.

So after our final paper on 25th, me and Shyuan followed baby ong's car to buy ingredients, "shun bian" go and have a look at her new house in Kepong. Kuak was a bit suspicious because I did not follow his car home... but I think he did not know what I was up to. Hehe

This is the shop where we bought everything from. Quite a small and packed shop.

Tadaaa~!!! All the ingredients that we needed. Cheese and chocolate were the MUST-HAVE ingredients because we are chocoholic and cheesaholic! Hehe.

Below are the steps taken to bake the cupcakes. Though the steps were simple to follow based on a cupcake baking recipe, the entire process was time consuming because baby ong's oven sot sot jor. Need more time to bake the cupcakes nicely.

#1: Measure the ingredients needed. (eg: flour, sugar, margarine etc)

Look at her. She has a new name - Butcher Shyuan

#2: Crack open the eggs according to the amount needed.

#3: Pour whatever needed into the mixture bowl. Use electric egg beater to beat the eggs and mix the mixture evenly.

#4: When the mixture is mixed evenly, it is ready to be poured into the paper cups.

#5: Place the cups with mixture onto an oven tray and arrange them nicely to maximise the space of tray.

Ready to be baked!

#6: Place the tray into the oven. Set the desired temperature and time for baking.

In the meantime.........

Shyuan and baby ong could not resist the temptation of almonds. Yucks. I am an almond hater.

We named the one on the left "songkok cupcake"

#7: Finally, the cupcakes are ready to be served!!!

As you can see, the cupcakes look slightly umm.... geli right? Like not delicious at all. I doubt they tasted good but when we tried, well I would say the double cheese cupcake was the best one. Very very nice! (but "jelat")

So in order to make them more presentable, there are more steps to be taken.

#8: Decorate your cupcakes with cream, nuts or other tiny yet colourful patterned-sugar pieces.

I decorated this with the choc mixture before putting them into oven

After baking the wordings looked like this

Lightly-fried almonds as decorations

Partially ready cupcakes

We spent whole afternoon baking 3 flavours of cupcakes - double cheese, chocolate and cappucino. Due to her oven problem, we could not finish baking the cakes in time and she had to rush to a dinner party, so we borrowed her oven and continued the baking at home.

Really tiring. Exhausted.

Because I just managed to sleep 1 hour plus the night before. But I think it was worth it since it was for him hehe.

That night before going off for his birthday celebration with his friends in Green Box at midnight, I arranged the cakes in this huge cake box and asked his friend to bring it there in another car.

Ready to be served!!!

When everyone was going to doze off in the singing room due to lack of sleep, suddenly.....

This came into the room. Nice or not?? *thumbs up for myself*

But the funny part was, he thought the cupcakes was bought by his friends.

WTH.

A bit angry but aiya, how in the world was he supposed to know that it was me, baby ong and shyuan who baked them as I do not bake at all? Right?

Anyway, in the end I think he was touched but did not really show it. You know guys... they tend not to show too much of this sort of expression. Haha but really happy because I know the cakes were not too nice but he finished them =)

Could not really see my eyes anymore.

His smile proved that I was successful!

His gang of friends

So, what should I give him next as gift?

Definitely not cakes anymore. Not too good at it.

Must try something that I have not done before hehe.

Anyway, happy birthda again o~!!!
